Discover the most beautiful activities near Kreischberg during the winter

In the winter months you are at the perfect address to enjoy your holiday. There are a lot of activities that you can experience, below are examples of a few of these activities!

WINTER HOLIDAYS AT
THE FOOT OF THE KREISCHBERG

In winter, the snow-capped peaks and forests of the Murau-Kreischberg holiday region will not leave you cold. Whether you are exploring the area on skis, snowboarding or cross-country skiing, there is something for all winter sports enthusiasts on holiday in Styria. The snowy landscape also encourages walks through the idyllic countryside to watch, marvel and linger. With the “Kreischberg See Runde” around the Kreischberg and the “Zirben Wanderweg” you can explore the white landscape with the whole family on cleared paths. During the atmospheric Advent season, a walk can also be combined with a visit to the numerous Advent markets in the Murau-Kreischberg region.

DESCENT STATION KREISCHBERG

A base camp for sporting expeditions. On the nearly 40 kilometers of slopes available to guests in the Kreischberg ski area, both beginners and absolute professionals will find perfect piste conditions. It is not without reason that the Kreischberg is the ‘second home’ for Olympic and World Cup winner Anna Gasser and made for freestylers who can enjoy themselves in the snow park. The speed track, the permanent race track and the tubes are just the famous “icing on the spot”.

New gondola lift from December 2021: Winter sports enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to the Kreischberg 10er gondola, which will be put into use at the beginning of December 2021. The state-of-the-art and high-performance system replaces the existing 6-person gondola lift. The “Kreischberg 10er” safely transports up to 4,000 people per hour to and from the valley.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES OFF-PISTE

Walk with snowshoes through the pristine landscape off the trails, where you will be the first to set fresh tracks in the fallen fresh snow. The tour around the Grebenzenschutzhaus is an easy entry point for all beginners to get acquainted with snowshoes, while the road to the Frauenalpe via the Troughhütte to the summit at 1,997 meters is more for experienced people.

TO SKATE

Depending on the weather, there are various options for skating, such as in Murau at the outdoor pool, in Stadl an der Mur am Badesee or at the Stolzalpe behind the church. A highlight is the Ice Park Greimarena St. Peter am Kammersberg not far from Murau with skate rental, floodlights, music and bar.

SLUGGING / SLUGGING

Under the bright glow of the full moon you sled for almost two kilometers on the track in the Lachtal. The floodlit natural toboggan run starts at the Hirzmann Alm and is also easily accessible on foot. About 25 kilometers from the district capital of Murau, the municipality of Neumarkt in Styria, where you can choose from four different, specially created and maintained toboggan runs. More precisely, in the family ski area Tonnerhütte, which offers a special change from the  BERGaufrodELN. Save your strength and let the t-bar lift pull you up on your toboggan run.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

Just switch off, marvel and enjoy cross-country skiing in the snowy area. Both amateur runners and professional athletes will find perfect conditions. The Murau-Kreischberg region boasts about 40 km of double-groomed trails along the Mur, along the foothills of the mountains or through the picturesque villages of Styria. 100% snow certainty guaranteed snow cannons along the Weirerteichloipe with escape light system. On the two-kilometer course, you can also train your biathlon skills at the shooting range.
